Hi GMRC Parents,
Attached are the documents for our Annual Erg-A-Thon, to be held December 10th at Dick's Sporting Goods at Bridgewater Falls in Hamilton.  This is a huge fundraising even for our Crew!  Last year we were able to purchase a new cox box and some beautiful new oars, and this year, we hope we might be able to purchase a new boat, since we have the Hamilton Community Foundation matching all monetary contributions dollar-for-dollar.  Here's an explanation of what is included with this email...

Cover Letter - Description of the fundraiser, the date and times, etc.

Participant Agreement - This is an agreement for the kids to sign and return to Coach Emilie.  This is a fundraiser for the WHOLE crew, regardless of which season(s) they row.  If your child is not a winter rower, and you cannot return the form in person, please email Coach Emilie to make other arrangements for returning the signed form.

Contribution Letter - This is designed for you to mail out to your friends and family to request donations, in order to help your rower meet his/her goal.

Sponsor Sheet - This is designed to help you keep track of your donors.  It should be returned to Coach Emilie on Erg-A-Thon day.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THIS FUNDRAISER AND OF THE CREW.
GO GMRC!

Hi everyone,
Again it was a little chilly, but we had a great race in Indianapolis.  Most of us made the trek across the bridge to see our kids up close on the water.  Meanwhile, the crew enjoyed some warm chili and fresh bread, fruits and veggies back at camp!  As the weather gets colder, more and more clothes show up at the regattas, which usually means more things left behind.  Tracy Lien emailed me to let me know that her son Cory will have the following items at practice tomorrow, if anyone is missing them:
Claiborne black aviator sunglasses
Old Navy grey long sleeved stretchy t-shirt XS
Indiana Rowing Lanyard
GMRC rowing t-shirt Small
Black thinsulate mens gloves
Mountain Club jacket XL
Thanks to all of the amazing parents who worked so hard to make sure the crew was comfortable and ready to race yesterday!  Look for some important information in the coming week regarding final arrangements for Chattanooga, and our winter fundraiser...the Erg-A-Thon...scheduled for DECEMBER 10th.  Have a great week!

Speakmon 2011 started off a little on the chilly side, but thanks to hot coffee, a super tent crew, and a lot of new parents and kids, the site was nice and cozy!  We got to know each other quickly with the help of our cool, new nametags and lanyards.  What a fantastic group of new families - we are so lucky to have all of you!  A few eggs were broken in the midst of preparing a scrumptious hot breakfast, and a minor crisis was averted when one of our tents was nearly carried away by the strong winds.  The kids' races moved along very smoothly, although the regatta fell just a little behind.  The lunch break was taken as scheduled, and the chefs prepared some awesome burritos (yum!) with surprisingly few pans.  After lunch, there seemed to be a steady stream of “mooow”-ing as one boat after the other lined up at the start and raced to the finish.  The new parents got the hang of the whole thing very quickly and jumped in to help with anything and everything.  The trailer was nearly packed and ready to go before the kids returned to the site after their last race!  Despite our best efforts, there were still a few items left behind at the site.  If you have lost things, feel free to use the blog as a means for tracking them down.  And if you ended up taking things home that weren’t yours, I thank you on behalf of whomever they belong to .  And thank you again to all of the families who helped make yesterday a success…we couldn’t do it without you!  See you next weekend in Hamilton.

Here are the results, or you can download them from Regatta Central:

I condensed the heat sheet from regatta central, to include only the events the GMRC Youth Team have rowers represented. It is in excel format, down to 4 pages, in case anyone wanted to print at home(they don't sell them at the event like swimming). Hopefully it attaches and you can download it. Speakmon2011.xls

Well, the weather wasn't great, but we enjoyed a nice, warm, dry space thanks to some early-bird parents who commandeered an unreserved picnic shelter and strung up our tent-sides with bungee cords.  The kids, and parents, didn't go hungry, with the Mason carpool families arranging an awesome lunch, complete with veggie hot dogs (Yum!) and super, healthy snacks.  Our mixed 8 boat took first place, earning one of my two favorite rowers (my own step-daughter, Katherine) her very first rowing medal.  Watching the kids row their hearts out underneath a beautiful suspension bridge made for a very exciting experience, with great "MOOW"ing opportunities!  Overall, this small but well-organized event was a perfect start to the season.  Thank you to our amazing Booster Parents for working so hard yesterday...from pulling the trailer, to prepping, sending, and cooking the food, and from moving tables and rounding up kids, to packing up and organizing materials.  Your commitment to your kids is inspiring.  Hope to see you all at the New Parent Brunch on Saturday Oct. 8th during practice.  We will welcome our Novice Parents in GMRC style .  Enjoy your Sunday!

P.S. It was great to see our Varsity Parents again...we missed you Evans and Porter families!

Katherine Edman by Katherine Edman @
Hi, my name is Katherine Edman and my daughter is Jessica Wilson. We live in Mason. Jessica is eager to join the GMRC, but we need help with carpooling. I work until 5, so getting her to Hamilton by 4 is just not feasible. I'm very happy to bring some students home after practice in exchange. I have a 5-seat sedan so can bring 3 students comfortably and 4 with a little squeezing. If you are interested in creating a carpool, or if there is a carpool coming from Mason with room for one more, please text me at 513-325-5739. Thanks so much! Katherine Edman
