Hi GMRC Parents!
What a turn out in Oak Ridge yesterday! The beautiful weather made up for last weekend's rain, and we had over 10 hours of great racing in a gorgeous venue. The kids enjoyed high quality entertainment on a comfortable chartered bus, and were given the opportunity to practice on the water on Friday afternoon. While the kids were busy getting the lay of the land, some of our very dedicated parents were staking out premium real estate at the 1500 meter mark. Team meetings were held at the venue, and an elementary school fundraiser provided a filling dinner for a good cause. By 9:45, the kids were back at the hotel and settling in for the night. An informal Booster Meeting in the hotel's lounge gave us all a chance to get to know each other a little better :). Everyone had a filling breakfast before leaving for the site, and not a single teenager overslept!
The girls were first on the water Saturday morning and the action was virtually nonstop from there. A crew in a neighboring tent chose to use the same chant we chime out to our own rowers, so we were twice as loud! There was grilled cheese and soup aplenty, along with many other snacks. A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE PARENTS WHO PUT THEIR TIME AND EFFORT INTO HELPING SUPPORT OUR CREW...all of the driving, all of the construction traffic, all of the cooking, all of the cleaning, all of the sitting around waiting. We appreciate every minute of it. Thank you!
